Automobile Battery and Things That You Can do to Prolong its Life

Although this is an era of electrical vehicles, cars that are run by battery are most preferred and are widely used vehicles. However, do you know, which is the vital part of your car that gets it running whenever you prefer it to? Well it’s the automobile battery. Except electric vehicles, all other vehicles need automobile battery to ignite and to supply electrical energy to the motor for keeping power supply intact throughout the internal parts of the vehicle.

An automobile battery is just like the heart of a vehicle. Besides supplying power to the car an automobile battery is very important for carrying out operations like car starting and lighting. Whenever you drive your vehicle, the motor is continuously running with the help of the power supplied by the automobile battery. This drain the battery out of some amount of power and the battery automatically switches to charging mode. Thus, an automobile battery not only maintains power flow to the engine, but also keeps itself ever ready to fulfil the future demand in energy.

According to the battery manufacturers, there are certain points that you need to take care in order to bless your battery with longevity. Some of them are:

Installation:

Installation of the battery must be done very firmly, or it may cause the battery to fall off due to jerks and bounces leading to damage of the battery.

Battery contents:

Do care to check the internal state of your battery at periodic intervals. Check the oxide, sulphate, etc on the battery surface. If you detect any trace of battery corrosion, clean it off and cover the surface with Vaseline to prevent the oozing of chemicals.

Connecting line:

Often check if the connecting line between the battery and the vehicle is strong or good. A gap in the connection can cause spark, even battery exploding to damage the vehicle.

Level of electrolyte:

For keeping the battery performance stable, be sure to check the level of electrolyte and maintain the standard level.

Charge:

Never overcharge your battery or keep it devoid of power for long time. Overcharging is known to harden the active ingredients present inside your battery while lack of power catalyses the plate sulphation process and inflicts permanent damage on the battery.

Low temperature:

Whenever there is a change of season, especially when the temperature gets lower, help your battery from getting frozen and fully discharged by igniting the engine frequently.
